Experience has taught us that you don't come up with unique and unforgettable names by just scratching the surface of what your brand, product or service could be. For the best results you have to go deeper, take a little more time and engage the power of your subconscious mind. That's why we follow our own unique approach to naming, which we call the sticky process.
This is how it works:
1. We start by developing strategic naming territories
Before we even begin to design you a name we look at all the things that make your brand unique and differentiates it from your key competitors. We then identify as many strategically 'ownable' naming territories as we can to show you the possibilities of what your brand could be.
2. We create names for each territory
Now we generate names around each of them. But only a choice selection. Why? Because at this stage, the goal is just to open up the possibilities within each territory so we can discuss and assess the merits of each with you before we proceed any further. It's about ensuring that we only design names on rock-solid strategic foundations.
3. We select the most promising naming territories for more focused exploration with you
At this vital stage of the process, we take the time to fully discuss the merits of each naming territory with you and identify the most promising territory or territories to explore further. In most cases, our preliminary strategic assessment will reveal a clear 'winner'. However, in case of any doubts, exploring 2 or even 3 territories further will either clearly validate your first instincts – or give you some good additional food for thought.
4. We design names for each selected territory
This is where we dig deeper into each territory to unearth the sticky treasures for you. And crucially, by this stage of the process, our subconscious minds will have already been working on the task for several days. It's something that really does make a difference. Because it means you don't just get the most 'obvious' names that emerge from a 'normal' naming process. You also get the ones that make much more interesting and powerful connections – names that really 'stick'.
5. Finally, we factor in any feedback and repeat step 4 until you're totally stuck on your new name
